Admissions Fellows are current students in various programs across Johns Hopkins SAIS, and they have a variety of backgrounds and interests. Andrew Swenson
Andrew Swenson is a Master of Arts in Global Risk candidate and Admissions Fellow at SAIS. Originally from Minneapolis, he completed his Bachelor of Arts at the University of Minnesota as a non-traditional student, returning to finish his degree after a thirteen-year hiatus spent traveling across more than 60 countries and immersing himself in diverse societies. Now based in New York City, Andrew focuses his academic and independent research on geopolitical risk, global aviation, and the multifaceted impacts of artificial intelligence on economic systems, human agency, and society. Outside of his work, he is an avid cyclist and home cook.
Alexa Ayala
Alexa Ayala is a second-year Master of Arts in Global Risk student at SAIS with a background in healthcare, currently working in Texas. Alexa’s work in paramedicine has provided her with the importance of collaboration and adaptability amid uncertainty, while also giving her a strong sense of purpose in driving positive impact. Beyond her professional experience, her personal interests in culture, resilience, and security led her to SAIS to explore practical pathways into international relations, particularly through the lens of global risk. She looks forward to sharing her experience in the program and exploring the many opportunities SAIS offers.
Katelin Goño
Katelin Goño is a Master of Arts in Global Risk student pursuing a career at the intersection of emerging market risk, human-centered design, and interfaith alliances in international development. Before SAIS, she earned a BA in international studies from Pepperdine University. She has worked with international nonprofits and humanitarian organizations in the US, Mexico, and East Africa. As an Admissions Fellow, she enjoys helping prospective students learn more about the SAIS community and find their own path through the program. Fun fact: she is fluent in Spanish and currently learning Korean!
